yersterday, my mom asked me what's wrong with Saul, why did God give him such hard pulishment?

this morning when i read it, i once again thinking what's wrong in here. this is the 1st mistake Saul did and i notice few things:

1. Saul pray and God did not answer this time
2. Saul's troops are leaving and he's afriad
3. Saul offer because of the above 2 reasons
4. Samuel said what he did turn people away from God
